It was a crisp, cool morning at the end of March. A slurry of ice still on the lake, but the last of the ice fishing had passed. The only sounds were the hammering of a pileated woodpecker and the squirrels as they scurried about. The sun slowly brought the textures of the forest to life and began to warm my face. I was grateful to be there.
