Starting out before sunrise in mid 30's temperatures, my goal was to be in position to photograph the Great Blue Heron during the first couple hours of soft, morning light. The rookery is hidden deep in a swamp and the wet spring had me doubtful that I could ever reach my viewpoint. With slow, carefully chosen steps, I utilized my tripod to assist in the numerous balancing acts required to cross areas that threatened to exceed the height of my hiking boots. An hour into my journey, I located and reached my spot. Here I planted my feet and tripod in the spongy earth, under a few inches of water and did not move them for the next two hours. The herons were plentiful and the light was perfect. I was rewarded with the images from a spectacular display of graceful awkwardness, as the herons interacted with their mates.

Seeking blessings and emotional rewards greater than the financial rewards of his mechanical engineering career, Everet made the decision to resign from his full-time job in October 2013 to pursue art as a freelance fine art photographer.
